Bub misses a deadline, but it will be worth it

I hate missing deadlines but sometimes it's better to sort things properly especially when you're talking about little things like engines.

So it's been a month since the last Bubdate and I've not been sitting on my hands .... things wot have been done
  • accessory wiring loom 8 blade fuse box) fitted using 16mm cross section cable to bring a permanent live to the dashboard
  • a couple of accessory sockets wired in
  • Intercom has been fitted and works very well, I can connect my phone, an iPod/iPad/tablet and CB
  • CB antenna fitted
  • Brakes adjusted
  • Tyre pressure experimentation started - 10psi front, 20psi rear. Low pressures in a ttempt to gain front grip and some rear suspension
  • New horn fitted: the original one is earth switched and all the wiring was cacked so I rewired it and converted the steering wheel button to positive switch
  • seat pads made from mechanics crawler mats
  • Roll cage padding to protect heads and legs
  • new battery, terminals and tie downs fitted
  • new 8mm copper fuel line run through the body
  • new, new facet fuel pump fitted (reproduction one was shite)
  • simple fuel filter fitted and filter/regulator removed
Next; problems solved
  •  Typically of a 46 year old car, the wiring loom is corroded. The main symptom of this is irrational problems suddenly and intermittently messing with your head
    • headlight high beam O/s: working, not working, working again, sort of working .... traced the wires back and 12v all the way. Hmmmm, check the earth and BINGO. New earths for the front ned and its fixed
    • Brake lights; long story short, the main positive feed from the fusebox has high resistivity so only 5v were getting through. Took me a whole day to test all the components, identify the correct wires (including figuring out that there are 2 +ve feeds) and run in a new permanent live)
    • Fusebox: original one uses 'continentall' bullet fuses which are prone to suffering from vibration so for £9.40  bought a new 12 gang blade fuse box and I'm half way through swapping them over. Fiddly but not difficult.
  • Brakes: front discs have polished up nicely and are in good condition. New pads will be fitted prior to French Alps 2019, rear drums need adjusting but are working well enough.
  • Engine .... where do I start, in another Bubdate, it's that big!
