I've bought a Beetle to drive to the Sahara Desert and back but it needs some 'attention' first. It will become a "Buggered Up Beetle" ......
This year, Matthew, I've mostly been waiting for parts

Aaargh ... waiting for parts ..... waiting for parts ..... waiting for parts .... still fecking waiting!
Since the last Bubdate, I've waited for
the ignition system from Joe Blow which he didn't send with the kit because he didn't spot my order
the specialist ATF for the supercharger
the parts for the support rod (not really, arrived the next day and took 15 minutes to fit)
the ignition system which Aussie Post says has been sent despite the lack of tracking number because 'It's too hot mate, the scanner's bust"
oil cooler hose
fuel pump
the ignition system which, after 10 days, STILL isn't in the UK
the kennedy stage 1 clutch pressure plate and HD friction plate (and I need a stronger clutch release system - another £250 I hadn't budgeted for)
The bloody ignition system which Oz Post now says (after Mick at Joe Blow spent an entire day on the phone to them) got double scanned and therefore lost. It is now (4th Feb) en route, allegedly
6mm fuel hose
more M8 bolts and washers because I've run out
steering wheel spacer
engine 'cage' aka rear bumper. I didn't want to fit one because I love the bare arse look but I need somewhere to mount a number plate and protect the engine
So while I've been waiting what have I done?
Finished building up the motor (see the video)
fitted the facet type fuel pump to the tank bulkhead
wired up the fuel pump to an ignition controlled, hidden, isolator switch for added security
fitted the fuel filter/regulator to the engine firewall
fitted the remote oil filter to the engine firewall
fitted the oil cooler ... and will probably need a fan which .... I'll have to wait 4-6 weeks for!
fitted the seats properly (a little welding repair for the seat rails)
fitted the seat belt extenders
Started planning the 'extras'
So once the clutch parts and ignition system arrive I'll pull the engine again, fit and reinstall. That'll take an hour or so with a little help. No doubt a couple of hours of fucking around with wiring to get the ignition system installed and then, finally, it'll be time to fire up the barby.
Current plan is to have Bub ready to road test, weather permitting, in a couple of weeks and then 500 miles of easy running to bed the engine in. Once that's done I can start tuning (can anyone lend me a wideband AFR) and then it's off to the Dyno to get that bit of paper that will let me win in the hot crucible of FB arguments.
THEN ... April .... and a possible Mad Plan
Now for some video and photos
Fibreglass cover over the original back end
measured and cut
Final fit - pipes to be clipped in place
space for a wee fan in there
now roof will cover the roll cage only - plenty of airflow ;-)
